Charlie Blasberg is a popular performer in New York’s independent music scene, bringing his piano-based pop and rock songs to crowds across the east coast -- always with enthusiasm and joy. His band, The Immortals, features some of the best pound-for-pound musicians on the scene. Blasberg describes his music as “Carole King meets Billy Preston” — taking the living room feel of Carole King and James Taylor and serving it up with the soulful harmonies and make-you-move rhythms of Stevie Wonder and Billy Preston.
Whistling In The Wind (releasing October 4 on Super Tall Man Recordings) is Blasberg’s third EP and his most ambitious project yet, a leap forward for the up and coming performer/songwriter/composer. Together with The Immortals, Blasberg weaves infectious hooks into complex arrangements, complete with horn and string sections. Thematically, the project is all about genuine, one-on-one relationships, from the early stages of a romantic partnership ("It Smells Good") to a parent coming to terms with their daughter's independence ("Empty Saturdays"). Blasberg draws from the pop/rock/soul style popularized today by bands like Lawrence and Lake Street Dive, while etching his own stylistic space by incorporating his classical and jazz roots.
